Audi A8 to star in new Transporter TV series

The Transporter film series is taking a detour from the silver-screen to arrive in TV land. Called – crazily enough – Transporter, the new Cinemax series stars a man who is not Jason Statham quite good at ... transporting. Lead actor Chris Vance's preferred method of transportation will reportedly be the redesigned Audi A8, which we think should fit the bill quite nicely. After all, a 372-horsepower, 4.2-liter V8 paired with Quattro all-wheel-drive, excellent seats and a 1,400-watt B&O sound system should be enough to keep driver, passengers and cargo moving along quickly and comfortably.

Of course, were we the appropriately named Transporter in question, we might wait for Audi to hand over the next S8. How about you – What would be your preferred tool for the Transporter gig? Have your say in Comments.

Audi RS3 goes head-to-head against BMW 1 M Coupe in drag race

BMW 1 M Coupe vs Audi RS3

There's no end to the vehicles to which you could compare the BMW 1 M Coupe. You could pit it against its big brother the M3, or the original that is its spiritual ancestor. Top Gear put it in unusual context with the Volkswagen GTI. Autocar against the Porsche Cayman R. The list goes on and on, but perhaps its most natural modern rival is the Audi RS3.

Sure the RS3 has all-wheel drive and a dual-clutch gearbox, not to mention two more doors, but their stats are otherwise pretty much spot-on. That's why AutoExpress chose these two for the most basic type of race you could imagine: a straight-line drag down the quarter-mile. Follow the jump to see who won.

2012 Audi TT RS priced from $56,850

2012 Audi TT RS

Audi has finally released U.S. pricing on the company's 2012 TT RS. Buyers looking to jump into the 360-horsepower coupe can plan on handing over $56,850 (*plus any applicable destination charges) for the pleasure of ownership. That pricing scoots the mean little Audi well under the Porsche Cayman S at $62,100, though the topless Boxster S narrows that gap somewhat with a price tag of $58,600. Of course, both of those lithe sports cars are down by about 50 ponies compared to the new Quattro terror, which helps give the edge from stop light to stop light. The German automaker says that the 2012 TT RS can scoot to 60 mph in a scant 4.1 seconds.

That's moving right along, especially considering that the BMW 1 Series M Coupe does the same sprint in 4.7 seconds. It's also about $1,600 cheaper, but who's counting? For comparison's sake, the 265-hp TTS starts at $47,000, itself already a big leap over the $38,300 base 211-hp TT.

With so many diminutive, excellent German racers about, the North American enthusiast's world is clearly a better place than it was just a few years ago. Hit the jump to check the full press blast and be sure to check out the high-res gallery.

New Sport version caught undisguised 2012 Audi S7

2011 2012 Audi S7
At the Paris Motor Show 2010 Celebrates the Audi A7 Sportback show premiere, shortly thereafter, the elegant four-door coupe available at dealerships. Also sporting a S-model will be available from the A7, however, until 2011. But now our photographer an untamed S7 received before the lens.

From the outside, the S7 can be recognized by the usual models for the S-characteristics. There is a new front apron with air intake vents in honeycomb appearance and a spoiler lip. The rear view presents changed - with a modified bumper and a vierflutigen exhaust system. Furthermore special side skirts and alloy wheels in 20 ". Further distinguishing feature of the S7 is a silver mirror housings and grille with chrome struts in lattice design. The Erl King caught by us dispense with the latter elements still. The interior of the S7 differs by individual sports seats, among other things, a special steering wheel and trim in the S-design of the other A7 models.

Audi unveils 500hp A1 Clubsport Quattro show car at Wörthersee

Audi and all-wheel drive go together like mothers and apple pie. The German automaker has cultivated its Quattro systems as emblematic of its raison d'etre, incorporating it into its rapidly expanding range... with one exception: the A1. But that's about to change.

After launching the diminutive hatchback in front-wheel-drive only, Audi is working on extending the traction to the rear wheels as well. And to give us an idea of what to expect, the company has launched the A1 Clubsport Quattro concept among the 18 vehicles on display at its annual celebration in Wörthersee.

The little beast is built around an extensively tuned 2.5-liter turbo five with just under 500 horsepower. Optimized by direct injection and channeled to all four wheels through a six-speed manual, Audi claims the concept can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in a scant 3.7 seconds, doubling that speed in 10.9 en route to an electronically limited, Autobahn-crunching top end of 250 km/h (155 mph).

The package is rounded out by an aggressive wide-body aerodynamic kit, decked out in matte white paint with a carbon-fiber roof, with a side-exit exhaust and 19-inch alloys. While the production A1 Quattro and the S1 or RS1 to follow isn't likely to pack the 500 horses of the show car, gamers can check it out in Need for Speed World for a limited time.

Millions in exotic cars go swimming in flooded Singapore garage

flood-damaged cars in singapore

Flood-damaged cars sit in Singapore garage – Click above to view image gallery

The Orchard Road area of Singapore is filled with shopping, entertainment and high-end living. Unfortunately, it's also filled with lots of water at the moment, and that water found its way into the parking garage of the local St. Regis Residences. Home to people with a healthy number of dollars in their bank accounts, the parking garage is, not surprisingly, filled with all sorts of exotic machines.

Those vehicles are now sitting in a rather deep puddle of water.

From the photographs in the gallery below, we spy a Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 458 Italia, Rolls-Royce Phantom, a handful of BMWs, an Aston Martin, a few Audis, a Maserati GranTurismo and one very sad looking Porsche. The only owner who might be able to muster up a smile is the one with the keys to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

2012 Audi RS4

The RS4 is ready to roll! Our spies have caught a development mule for the ultimate A4 during testing in Germany. And despite the S4 badge on its grille it's clear there's more than meets the eye.
Most obvious are the huge 21-inch wheels, destined to be an option on the finished car. Behind those are larger discs designed to cope with this car's extra performance over and above the 328bhp V6-engined S4. The bulging wheelarches have been stretched too, to accomodate a wider front and rear track for improved stability in the bends.

Up front the air intakes have been enlarged to provide additional cooling for the engine - likely to be the same 444bhp 4.2-litre V8 as the RS5, connected to a seven-speed S Tronic twin-clutch gearbox. Performace will be similar too, with a 0-62mph time in around 4.5 seconds and a 155mph limited top speed.

Audi Shows R8 Spyder GT Sketches

Those who routinely read between the lines are no doubt nonplussed to learn Audi is doing a Spyder version of the R8 GT. In fact, we openly speculated Audi would eventually offer an open version of the car back in March when pricing was announced for the coupe. Scheduled for launch in the early part of 2012, after debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the R8 GT Spyder is indeed slated to be reality.
Propelled by the same 5.2-liter, 560-horsepower V10 found in the R8 GT Coupe, the R8 GT Spyder would easily be the fastest open car Audi has ever produced for the street. Just as the closed version of the German exotic sports car is a limited run one off, the Spyder is expected to be a limited edition model as well. While the U.S. market was slated for but 90 examples of the coupe, allotment of the Spyder has yet to be announced.

You may recall the coupe owes its lighter weight to a broad incorporation of selected carbon fiber components, erasing some 180 pounds from Audi’s flagship performance coupe. Primary carbon fiber bits include the rear hatch, spoiler and diffuser. In addition to adding speed, the new carbon componentry helps improve handling as well. Other bits benefiting from lightening were the fixed rear wing, modified brake calipers, reduced engine-bay sound deadening and a lighter windscreen fashioned from thinner glass. It is reasonable to expect those modifications will also be incorporated into the Spyder.

To convey its limited-edition nature, the Audi R8 GT Spyder, like it’s coupe sibling, will enjoy a variety of exclusive interior and exterior touches. Based on the preliminary sketches released by Audi, one can surmise each car will have a numbered gearshift knob. The instrument cluster will be white with the R8 GT logo and the interior will feature carbon matte inlays. Black Alcantara swathes the seats, headliner, steering wheel and handbrake lever—accented with contrasting stitching. Additionally, the doorsills are laced with aluminum inserts containing the R8 GT logo.
