On the sidelines of the summit meeting of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Lisbon, Portugal, last weekend, Obama even took time to try Opel Ampera, car type extended-range plug-in electric hybrid. Ampera Opel is the European market version of the Chevy Volt. America's first black president was called the Opel Ampera as one example of American technology and General Motors hopes the product will be successful market.
"This car looks sweet," Obama said when occupying the passenger seat Opel Ampera as quoted by The Detroit News, Monday (22/11/2010).
But unlike the Volt ever driven, Obama sat in the passenger seat this time. Not long after Obama asked the person sitting in the driver's seat to immediately start the engine.
He then praised the Opel Ampera a quiet voice and almost inaudible, saying that a car like this is the 'car of the future'.
Obama's praise of environmentally friendly cars like hybrids and electric had been several times he expressed. Previously, Obama had promised to buy 100 electric cars on sale first in America to the White House staff official vehicles.
Not only that, before Obama has also said it would take 1 million hybrid cars to fill the streets of America in 2015.
Tomorrow Obama with Joe Biden vice president also plans to visit the transmission plant owned by Chrysler Group LLC in Indiana, United States. This is Obama's fourth visit to the automobile factories in the United States.
